The early to mid-20th century was characterized by income, racial and gender inequalities in the workplace. Labor unions were established to negotiate and even demand minority races and women to be given equal access to economic opportunities. Times have changed, and there is now more inclusion in the workplace. However, there is still need for trade unions to ensure that all employees’ are treated equally, given the same opportunities for advancement regardless of their gender, age, religion and race. Labor unions also ensure that their rights are respected. This paper is going to discuss the relevance and importance of trade unions today.
