Starbucks Corporation, founded in 1971 in Seattle, Washington, is a world-renowned coffee chain with over 28,200 branches globally. The company was founded by Gordon Bowker, Jerry Baldwin, and Zev Siegl after learning the art of roasting coffee beans from coffee-brewing entrepreneur, Alfred Peet. Due to its high-quality coffee blends and flavors, Starbucks stood out from its competitors and as a result developed a loyal customer base. By 1978, Starbucks had four new locations in Seattle. In 1981, Howard Schultz, a sales representative from the Swedish company where Starbucks bought its drip coffee makers became intrigued by the rapid growth of the company and visited the organization. Being highly impressed with the brand, he decided to pursue a career at Starbucks and was hired as the head of marketing in 1982.
