Kim II-sung led North Korea from 1946 until his death in 1994. The Government did not report his death until almost 34 hours after it occurred. After the announcement of his death, a 10 day mourning period was declared during which no form of celebration was allowed in the country. He was revered all over the country because he presented himself as someone whose authority was always right and unquestionable. He was a cult of personality.
