Black Lives Matter (BLM) is a movement whose roots are traced to the African-American community. It’s a campaign against systematic racism and violence against people. The movement began in 2013. George Zimmerman, a white American, was acquitted for the murder of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old African-American in 2012. Zimmerman’s acquittal led to a social media uproar especially from the black community under the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter. The BLM movement continued in earnest on 2014 after the racially charged murders of two more young black men. There have been numerous other protests against the issues affecting the black community across the world. These issues include racial inequality, racial profiling, and police brutality.
